Disclosed is a process for dispensing currency or non-cash media from an automated teller machine ("ATM"), in which non-cash media is dispensed through the same mechanism as currency is dispensed, and for identifying the dispensed currency or non-cash media and linking it to the purchaser. The currency or non-cash media may have information that identifies a particular customer and the particular transaction in which the currency or non-cash media was dispensed. The ATM may be configured to embed purchaser- and transaction-specific information on the currency or non-cash media and to read the information to verify it.
