The object aims to find a substance having a glutathione production-enhancing activity among highly safe natural substances and to provide a glutathione production enhancer and a prophylactic/therapeutic agent for diseases associated with the lack of glutathione each of which comprises the substance as an active ingredient.  The glutathione production enhancer or the prophylactic/therapeutic agent for diseases associated with the lack of glutathione comprises, as an active ingredient, a licorice extract composition which contains liquiritin, liquiritigenin, isoliquiritin and isoliquiritigenin but does not substantially contain glycyrrhetinic acid.
