The display time ΔT’ for an error message that is displayed in place of an image judged to be undisplayable is set independently from the display time ΔT for each image judged to be displayable. Thus, during a slide show display, the fact that an image which was originally supposed to be displayed could not be displayed can be made known to the user without the loss of viewing enjoyment and feeling of unease which may be caused in the user by the display of an error message for the length of time that displayable images are displayed.
