The invention relates to a method for determining the measuring uncertainty u of coordinates in geometric measurement using coordinate measuring or form measuring devices, preferably by means of visual sensors. The method is performed for a predefined measuring type X with predefined quality parameters QP, which are significant for measuring type X, and begins with the carrying out of preliminary analyses for the predefined measuring type X. The standard deviation s associated with measuring type X and determined in the preliminary analyses, selected reference quality parameter values QPR, and an assignment rule determined therefor are saved to a database. Individual measured values and individual quality parameters QPE are determined in conjunction with the carrying out of a subsequent individual analysis for the predefined measuring type X and the measuring uncertainty u of the individual analysis is calculated by the application of the assignment rule to the individual quality parameter QPE.
