A complex orthogonal code uses as a code word, each row of a square matrix of N rows × N columns in which the element on the m-th row and the n-th column is exp (2πj(m-1) (n-1)/N) (j is an imaginary number unit).  The optical orthogonal code for optical code division multiplex communication/optical code division multiplex connection (OCDM/OCDMA) is realized by N optical pulse columns corresponding to a deviation angle (phase) of the aforementioned code element.  The light transmission device or the light reception device includes an optical correlation device equipped with a sampling Bragg grating having a plurality of Bragg gratings arranged in series at a predetermined interval in an optical waveguide.  Any one of the code words is allocated to the optical correlation device.  In the light transmission device, an optical signal to be transmitted is encoded by the optical correlation device.  In the light reception device, a reception optical signal is decoded by the optical correlation device.  A high self-correlation output can be obtained only when the code word encoded by the reception optical signal coincides with the code word allocated to the light reception device.
