Raman effect amplifier comprising PCF optical fibres and method of manufacturing a Raman effect amplifier comprising PCF fibres

The amplifier (12) has two photonic crystal fibers (PCF) (15, 16) associated to a Raman pump (17) comprising a diode. The pump transmits a pump field to the fibers that are polarization maintaining fibers. The fiber (15) presents a slow axis (A-L15) and a rapid axis (A-R15) co-linear with a rapid axis (A-R16) and a slow axis (A-L16) of the fiber (16), respectively, such that a differential group delay induced in an optical signal by the fiber (15) is compensated by a differential group delay induced in the signal by the fiber (16). The length of the fibers is between 100 to 5000 meters. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for fabricating a Raman effect amplifier (2) a method for amplifying an optical signal.
