A display data generating apparatus (1) according to the present invention includes: (i) a specification information specifying section (22) for acquiring specification information of a television (2) which specification information concerns display of an image, (ii) an image size control section (23) for generating a display image by changing the number of pixels of the image in accordance with the specification information such that the image is to be displayed in a predetermined display size on the image display apparatus, and (iii) a display control information generating section (34) for generating, in accordance with the specification information, display control information for defining a position of the display image on the screen of the image display apparatus. This makes it possible to realize an image data providing apparatus, which causes an image display apparatus to display an image in a predetermined display size.
