A system for processing, storing and comparing images of crime scene marks comprises a) a computer; b) a display connected to the computer to display at a first location a target image comprising image-features; c )a database accessible by the computer, comprising recorded images having pre-determined shape-features; and d) the computer being adapted to perform the steps of: i. displaying iconic representations at a second location on the display; ii. selecting an iconic representation and positioning it on an image-feature of the target image; iii. fitting the iconic representation so as to fit the iconic representation to the image-feature; iv. recording the manipulated iconic representation as a first shape-feature of the target image; v. searching the database for recorded images comprising said first shape-feature; vi. displaying some or all the recorded images found in the search on the display at a third location of the display; and vii. selecting a said displayed recorded image to enable visual comparison with the target image.
