The invention relates to the production of compounds of general formula (II) which can be produced using 1,4-addition of 2-oxoalkanoates or 2-oxocarboxylic acids to the corresponding ketones. The invention also relates to the use of the PigD protein for catalyzing 1,4-additions of 2-oxoalkanoates/2-oxocarboxylic acids, e.g. pyruvate/pyruvic acid or 2-oxobutyrate/2-oxobutyric acid, to aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic α,ß-unsaturated ketones, the 1,4-additions coinciding with separation of CO2. Using the PigD protein as a catalyst in said 1,4-additions makes it possible to synthesize addition products having stereoactive centers, said addition products being producible with an enantiomeric excess of more than 80 percent. The aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic α,ß-unsatured ketones suitable for said method are represented by general formula (I).
