The present invention relates to biomarkers for diseases. In particular, the present invention relates to methods involving uses of a phenotype of a particular natural killer cell (NK) subset, that being CD56 bright expressing NK cells, and NK functionality as biomarkers for determining the incidence of and predisposition to chronic fatigue syndrome. The present invention also relates to kits for performing the methods of the invention.
