The method involves disposing a container with a sample is disposed in a form of a resonator (8), and injecting a high-frequency signal into the resonator for exciting a resonant mode of the resonator. A part of the sample in the container is penetrated by resonant electric field of the resonator. A resonance curve of the resonant mode is measured with and without the sample. The sample is identified based on a determined variation of resonance frequency compared to the measurement without sample. An independent claim is also included for a device for identifying a sample in a container.
