The system (10) has a program storage device (18) and a data storage device (20) e.g. flash memory, connected to a central control device (16) e.g. 32-bit controller. A sensor interface device (22) is connected to the control device to monitor functional parameters e.g. temperature, of lithium-ion cells (14a-14c) of an electrical device i.e. lithium ion battery. Read devices (44a-44c) are connected to the control device to read operational parameters of the cells. The control device, storage devices, interface device and the read devices are integrated in an integrated circuit (12).
