The invention relates to a blocking bar for a blocking device (1), especially for flight animals such as horses. The blocking device (1) comprises two spaced-apart delimiting elements (20a, 20b) which delimit a passage and on which the blocking bar (10) can be mounted such that the passage can be blocked. The blocking bar has an elongate base (11), at both ends (11a, 11b) of which locking elements (12a, 12b) are disposed that allow the blocking bar to effectively engage with the two delimiting elements (20a, 20b) of the blocking device (1). According to the invention, the blocking bar (10) has a spring mechanism (13) which allows a spring force to be applied to at least one locking element (12a, 12b), and the characteristic curve of the spring mechanism (13) is selected such that the spring force applied to the at least one locking element (12a, 12b) by the spring mechanism (13) changes from a first spring force into a greater second spring force within a transition zone.
