PURPOSE: A serial-TCP/IP converter and an automatic IP address setting method are provided to enable a user to connect two serial communication devices to a TCP/IP network. CONSTITUTION: A serial communication unit(130) performs the serial communication with a serial-TCP/IP(Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) converter of the other party. The serial-TCP/IP converter is connected with a serial communication unit through a serial cable. A TCP/IP communication unit(140) performs the TCP/IP communication with the serial-TCP/IP converter. The serial-TCP/IP converter is connected with a TCP/IP communication unit through a TCP/IP network. According to an IP address setting request, a controller(160) generates an IP address and a port number.
