PURPOSE: A method for joining a new system by changing a session and a mobile terminal thereof are provided to change a session to a new session related to a 1x EV-DO Rev.A system even though the mobile terminal moves from a 1x EV-DO Rev.0 system to the 1x EV-DO Rev.A system, thereby joining the 1x EV-DO Rev.A system.;CONSTITUTION: System identification information is included in a message. A system change detecting unit(210) detects a system change through the message. A mobile terminal state managing unit(220) manages a mobile terminal state in an active state or an idle state. If a system change is detected, the mobile terminal state managing unit keeps or changes a state of the mobile terminal in the idle state. If the state of the mobile terminal is idle, a session management unit(230) ends a previous session.
