PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for predicting strip fracture in cold rolling mill using strip fracture predicting parameters are provided to predict an indication of strip fracture after deriving the strip fracture predicting parameters by measuring vibration signals generated from the strip. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises vibration measuring sensors(20a,20b) installed at an upper part of strip adjacent to rolling roll of the input side of each stand(100) and a lower part of strip adjacent to rolling roll of the output side of the stand to measure vibration signal generated from the strip; a signal amplifier(30) for amplifying the signals by receiving vibration signals from the vibration measuring sensors; a data analyzer(40) for analyzing the vibration signals during rolling time by receiving vibration signals from the signal amplifier; and a strip fracture prediction monitoring system(50) for calculating skewness, total level size and kurtosis by receiving output data signals from the data analyzer, and outputting the predicted sign of strip fracture by comparing numerical values of the respective parameters with numerical values of parameters under the steady state rolling conditions, thereby predicting a sign of strip fracture.
