PURPOSE: An accident recording apparatus for the vehicles using stereo image information and a control method thereof are provided to correctly detect an obstacle or measure a distance from the obstacle by generating 3D(Dimensional) information from a plurality of images and using the 3D information.;CONSTITUTION: 3D information is generated by using a plurality of images, which are captured by at least two cameras(S520). An obstacle is detected and a distance from the obstacle is measured by using the 3D information(S530). A degree of danger is determined by comparing a detection or measurement result with a predetermined danger level(S540). Resolution of the images is controlled based on the determined degree of danger(S550). The images having the controlled resolution are stored(S560).;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2010
