PURPOSE: A composition for preventing and treating obesity containing Alnus firma Sieb. et Zucc extract or a compound isolated from the same is provided to suppress -glucosidase and aldose reductase and reduce blood sugar. CONSTITUTION: A composition for anti-diabete contains Alnus firma Sieb. et Zucc extract or compound isolated from the extract as active ingredient. The compound isolated from the extract is garlic acid(compound 1), ferulic acid(compound 2), betulinic acid(compound 3), or hesperidin(compound 4). A pharmaceutical composition and food composition for preventing or treating diabetes contains the composition as an active ingredient. The food composition is used in the form of beverage, tea, or snack.
