PURPOSE: A road gradient estimating system and a method thereof are provided to improve the reliability of the real road gradient estimate by estimating the real road gradient in consideration of the error of the vehicle speed information and the CAN communications error about the vehicle speed information.;CONSTITUTION: A road gradient estimating system comprises a first gradient estimating unit(200), a second gradient estimating unit(300), and a final gradient estimating unit(400). The first gradient estimating unit estimates the first gradient value by using the vehicle speed information. The second gradient estimating unit estimates the second gradient value by using RPM of an engine in the specific section in which gear stages and a damper clutch are fixed. The final gradient estimating unit checks the CAN communications error about the vehicle speed information. If the error is not generated, the final gradient estimating unit outputs the first gradient value as the final gradient value.
