PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for composing an idle screen in a portable terminal are provided to configure an idle screen of a portable terminal according to the use environment of a user mobile terminal based on widget related group information.;CONSTITUTION: If an input event is an event for the request of widget set execution, a portable terminal extracts widget set information of widget set icon(305). The portable terminal calls up at least one widget according to the widget set information(309), and the terminal judges the location information of the called widget based on the widget set information.
