PURPOSE: A composition containing Acorus calamus var. angustatus essential oil is provided to suppress proliferation of vascular smooth cells and to prevent or treat disease caused by vascular smooth muscle cell hyperproliferation. CONSTITUTION: A vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation inhibitor contains Acorus calamus var. angustatus essential oil as an active ingredient. The Acorus calamus var. angustatus essential oil is obtained by steam distillation or polar solvent using roots or leaves of Acorus calamus var. angustatus. The Acorus calamus var. angustatus essential oil contains 30-50 weight parts of methyl isoeugenol and 10-30 weight parts of cyclohexanone. The composition is used in the form of capsule, injection, soft capsule, granule, or tablet.
