PURPOSE: An optical disc drive and an optical disc type discriminating method are provided to discriminate the type of an optical disc whose type is not discriminated based on the level of PE signals and the detection time of a FE signal.;CONSTITUTION: An optical disc type discriminating method comprises the following steps. The thickness between the cover layer and the record layer of an optical disc is measured. By comparing the measured thickness with a predetermined reference value, the type of the optical disc is discriminated. If the type of the optical disc is not decided by the comparison, further discrimination is performed based on the level and the number of PE signals and the detection time of a FE signal.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2010
