PURPOSE: An AF method and an AF device of an imaging apparatus are provided to improve the accuracy of a focus by changing the size of an AF window according to the position of a focus lens.;CONSTITUTION: A lens drive unit(104) controls the position of a focus lens. An image pickup device(106) outputs an electric signal corresponding to the image inside an AF(Auto Focusing) window in an AF operation. A controller(114) determines the size of the AF window to correspond to the position of the focus lens and selects the optimum AF data among AF data corresponding to the electric signal outputted from the imaging device.
