PURPOSE: A method for selecting a base station for a seamless handoff of an intelligent wireless transmission and reception unit is provided to perform seamless handoff for a mobile terminal by selecting an optimal base station by using GPS information.;CONSTITUTION: A WTRU(Wireless Transmitter Receiver Unit)(201) receives base station information from a base station information management server(202), and stores the received base station information at an internal memory. The WTRU uses the base station information stored in the internal memory to inquire to a first RAT(Radio Access Technology) whether or not an available channel exists.
