A method of compensating for shortening a vertical member of a high building is provided to reduce the reduction amount of a vertical member by installing a horizontal member having high section performance on the upper part of the vertical member which needs correction and reducing the size of the load applying on the vertical member due to the flexural rigidity of the horizontal member. A method of compensating for shortening a vertical member of a high building comprises: a step for calculating the reduction amount of an object vertical member(10) for correction; a step for reanalyzing the reduction amount of the object vertical member for correction by installing a horizontal member(30) on the upper part of the object vertical member; a step for determining the section performance of the horizontal member when the reduction amount of the object vertical member does not exceed allowed value; and a step for supporting one end of the horizontal member in which the section performance is determined on a vertical member which is adjacent to the object vertical member for correction.
