PURPOSE: A method for generating and restoring value added copyright protection information for a still image is provided to prevent the quality from being degraded without the direct insertion of copyright information into the still image. CONSTITUTION: A method for generating and restoring value added copyright protection information for a still image comprises the following steps of: generating an arbitrary coordinate value and arbitrary pixel value within the size of the still image and the range of pixel values by generating random numbers; extracting a pixel value from the still image by using the arbitrary coordinate value; giving 1 when the extracted pixel value is identical or larger to or than the generated arbitrary pixel value; generating a binary image by giving 0 if the pixel value is smaller than the generated arbitrary pixel value; and generating value added copyright information by performing the EX-OR operation based on the binary image and separate copyright information.
