PURPOSE: A friction member for a safety device of an elevator car and the safety device of the elevator car including the same are provided to gradually increase friction between a guide rail and a friction member by forming the center surface of the friction member thicker than the side surface of the friction member. CONSTITUTION: A friction surface(110) of a friction member(100) is comprised of a center surface(112) and a side surface(114). The center surface is surface-contacted with the rail surface of a guide rail. The side surface is arranged on both sides of the center surface. The side surface is contacted with the rail surface of the guide rail when the center surface is worn. The center surface is thicker than the side surface. The width of the center surface is 1/8 to 1/2 the size of the entire surface of the friction surface.
