The first version of the method is characterised by that, a transmitter is placed at one end of the monitored section and a receiver at the other end. A probing signal is sent from the transmitter to the overhead transmission line and the time it takes to reaching the receiver is recorded and compared with a reference value, and icing on the monitored section is determined from the comparison results. The second version of the method is characterised by that, a first transmitter and a first receiver are placed at the first end of the monitored section, and a second transmitter and a second receiver are placed on the other end of the monitored section. A first probing signal is sent from the first transmitter to the overhead transmission line. A second probing signal is sent from the second transmitter to the overhead transmission line, while recording the time lag up to the moment the first probing signal reaches the second receiver. The time lag between sending the first probing signal and the moment the second probing signal reaches the first receiver is recorded, compared with a reference value and icing on the controlled section is determined from the comparison results.;EFFECT: possibility of efficient monitoring icing on arbitrarily selected sections of an overhead transmission line without the need for shielding monitored sections with high-frequency chokes.;16 cl, 2 dwg
