FIELD: illumination.;SUBSTANCE: lamp power is modulated by arc rectification frequency and frequency that excites combined radial and lengthwise acoustic mode of the lamp. Aforesaid mode can represent combination of the first radial mode and n-th lengthwise acoustic mode and can be excited by one power frequency or by range of power swinging frequency. Two frequencies can be used either simultaneously or separately. Note here that modulation of arc rectification frequency is 2 to 16 times longer than next modulation with combined radial plus lengthwise acoustic mode.;EFFECT: higher yield of light radiation and longer life.;19 cl, 4 dwg
