The method involves computing a sequence of three different characteristic curves, from which an allowed speed profile (104) is provided during the lowest speed, and a profile (101) for an emergency brake intervention during the highest speed. A speed profile is computed between the allowed speed profile and emergency brake intervention profile, which is provided for activating warning messages to the train driver. An independent claim is included for a device for computing the characteristic curves for controlling the speed of a railway train.
