The mechanism (1) has a control wheel (4) controlling upper and lower calendar date rings (2, 3) that are rotatively mounted with respect to each other. The wheel is provided with two superposed levels of teeth, where each teeth level includes a portion provided with adjacent teeth and a teeth less portion. The teeth less portion of one of the levels is placed in vertical alignment with the teeth portion of other level. Tooth of the former level is superposed with the tooth of latter level. The teeth of levels respectively drive the date rings by teeth of the rings. An independent claim is also included for a watch, comprising a calendar date mechanism covering plate.
