The apparatus has a workpiece carrier (22) detachably fixed at a chuck (1). The chuck includes a clamping mechanism for fixing the carrier. The clamping mechanism includes clamping elements i.e. disk elements, which engage at a clamping surface (28a) arranged at the workpiece carrier. The disk elements include a front part with a pressurized surface, where the front part is designed to contact the clamping surface in a direction of tension. The clamping surface extends along an outer surface (26) of the carrier, where the disk elements lie at the clamping surface during clamping.
