The mechanism has a gong (1) provided with a supporting element (4) and an arched strand (2) whose end is fixed to the supporting element. An excitation unit such as cam (5) e.g. snail cam, comprises a flexible curved pin i.e. spring plate, whose shape permits pinching of the strand to progressively displace the strand along a movement perpendicular to its plane and suddenly release the strand for vibrating the strand and for producing strong intensity sound. The cam and the pin are formed as a single piece.
