The lifting device has a safety device (35) for surrounding a person when the person is lifted by a platform (19). A load bearing framework of the platform has a rectangular frame whose long sides (2, 3) are arranged in vertical position. Each side has a bracing whose upper part is articulated to two-thirds of height of the side and lower part is articulated on an end of a rectangular base arranged on a floor, so as to form a support polygon when the lifting device is in utilization position. The safety device is secured to a carriage supporting the platform, and moved with the carriage.
