Method for the removal of surface defects in the case of a glass sheet is produced according to the float process, characterized in that the surface to be treated by means of a laser beam of the glass ribbon to a depth of 25% of the thickness of the glass strip, but not lower than 0,25 mm is melted, wherein the heating to melting temperature in the glass surface with a rate of 300 to 2000 k · s^–1 takes place.
