The backrest has a cup base (2), frame elements (3-5), and a cup element (6) moving opposite to the cup base. The movable cup element serves for supporting a lower spinal column region i.e. lumbar region, of a user. The base has a recess, where the cup element is integrated into the recess. The cup base and/or cup element has a retainer (7) for retaining a back cushion and/or support elements (8, 9) for supporting the back cushion. The cup element has a curvature with curved side areas for supporting of lateral back area of a user.
