The electric motor has a motor shaft, and a sensor unit for detecting speed or rotation angle of the motor shaft. A fan impeller is fastened on the motor shaft and an electromagnetically operated brake is provided for the motor shaft. A shielding element shields the sensor unit located at the motor shaft, where the electromagnetically operated brake is oriented in the turning direction of the motor shaft against magnetic fields. The shielding element is manufactured from a soft magnetic powder composite material.
