The method comprises supplying a gabion with a filter material such as zeolith-bacteria and then placing in a water region e.g. pond. A forced flow of the filter element is provided only in highly strong water contamination. The filter material is mixed and adapted to the requirement corresponding to the load of raw water and desired quality of cleaning. The gabion is completely or partially filled with clay granulate, and is centralized in dependent of the quantity of raw water in optically responding groups e.g. circles. The filter material is inoculated with functional bacterial cultures. The method comprises supplying a gabion with a filter material such as zeolith-bacteria and then placing in a water region e.g. pond. A forced flow of the filter element is provided only in highly strong water contamination. The filter material is mixed and adapted to the requirement corresponding to the load of raw water and the desired quality of cleaning. The gabion is completely or partially filled with clay granulate, and is centralized in dependent of the quantity of raw water in optically responding groups e.g. circles. The filter material is inoculated with functional bacterial cultures before use. During normal water load e.g. by small fishes, a fish pond is kept clean with 150 m 3of water through 15 m 3filter masses passively without using pumps and forced flows. The cleaning substrate such as the zeolith-bacteria possesses a surface of 2000-4000 m 2per cm 3. The method possesses a self cleaning process during uninterrupted working process of the filter substrate (absence of toxic substances) and also strong mechanical contamination. The filled gabion is occupied with plants such as reeds. The trimmed plants consume the metabolic products produced by the bacterial cultures as nutrients. The zeolith-bacteria are shifted in vacuum with freeze-dried bacterial mix. The bacterial cultures are immobilized on an inner surface of the carrier substrate. The activation of the bacterial cultures takes place when the water to be cleaned penetrates into a cavity of the substrate.
