The method involves initiating communication between a vehicle (1) i.e. car, and a remote control (5) belonging to the vehicle by a radio signal (F), which is transmitted from the remote control to a receiving device of the vehicle. A transmitting device of the vehicle is used to transmit an optical response signal (IR) to the remote control after the radio signal is received, where wavelength of the optical response signal lies in an infrared range. Another radio signal is transmitted to the receiving device by the remote control after receiving the optical response signal as confirmation. An independent claim is also included for a communication system for communication between a vehicle and a remote control belonging to the vehicle.
