The mechanism has a shifting element (1) formed as a hollow shaft and movable along and pivotable around its central axis (X) in different shifting element positions (W1-W3). The element is provided with through holes at axial height of a lug (2). Fork rakes (5, 6) are sectionally insertable into the through holes in the rage of lateral extension. The fork rakes are covered in a region of a tooth inner wall facing the central axis such that the fork rakes form a cross aligning stop defining shift fork positions (Q1, Q2).
