The method involves connecting a starting point of a yarn of a supply spool (3.2) with an end of the yarn of another supply spool (3.1), and drawing the yarn from the spool (3.1) through a lug (2). The spool (3.1) is exchanged against the spool (3.2) by removing the spool (3.1) from a drawing area of the lug. The lug is moved relative to a rewinding machine (1) for bringing the spool (3.2) in the drawing area, and the spool (3.2) is moved in the position of the spool (3.1) relative to the machine such that the lug is moved together with the spool (3.2). An independent claim is also included for a supply spool changer comprising a movable supply spool carrier for changing supply spools.
