The method involves consulting an environment detection system for assistance of a driver of vehicles (1,2) during parking or leaving a parking space for detecting obstacles in a running traffic. The environment detection system evaluates the signals of ultrasonic sensors as sensors (5,6) and an alarm or control signal is generated when a minimum distance to the obstacles is not provided. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a driving aid device for execution of a method; and (2) a computer program product with a microprocessor.
