The mechanism (E) has batteries (B, B2) e.g. alkaline battery and lithium-thionyl-primary cell, for supplying power to an electrical equipment (G) i.e. telematic equipment, of a railroad freight car at high temperature and at low temperature, respectively. A switch device (U) switches power supply of the battery (B2) to the battery (B), when a temperature of the electrical equipment exceeds threshold value, where the threshold value lies above a minimum temperature of the electrical equipment. An independent claim is also included for a method for supplying power to an electrical equipment.
