The knee joint has a joint middle part (7) for receiving a vertically slidable guide rod (1) with a lower end (1a) that downwardly protrudes from the part. The end initiates mechanical or pneumatic swing phase control. Fixed points for the control are formed by lower ends of the part and the guide rod. A joint lower part (12) has a vertical through hole (24) for releasing the control. A control shaft (10) is rotatably supported in the middle part at a accurately defined vertical distance below a brake axis (11).
