The method involves coupling laser pulses (2) into an optical fiber (8), where the laser pulses are decoupled from a laser resonator (3). Resonator length is changed. An optical resonator length is reduced in an unidirectional manner during decoupling of the laser pulses from the resonator from a time point when light of the decoupled laser pulses enter into the resonator up to the time point and when the laser pulses are decoupled from the resonator. The optical resonator length between the laser pulses is reset to an initial value. An independent claim is also included for a laser i.e. pulsed, pumped laser, for producing laser pulses with reduced spiking, comprising a laser resonator.
