The method involves reflecting a request signal by an identification mark (80) e.g. radio frequency identification tag, when the identification mark is found within a range (RW1). A transmission-receiving device (50) sends another request signal with another reduced range (RW2). The latter request signal is reflected by the identification mark, when the mark is found within the latter range. A request system (40) determines that an activation element (20) i.e. key, is correctly inserted into a receiving device (10) i.e. guiding sleeve, when the device reflects the latter request signal. The transmission-receiving device and the request system are designed corresponding to a typical radio frequency identification system. An independent claim is also included for a device for implementing the method for recognizing the activation element that is correctly inserted into a holding device.
