The device (10) has a drive screw (28) that receives a tool i.e. driller (34), via a guidance (24a) i.e. dove tail guidance. The guidance is connected with a holder (12). A test device (50) with a tappet (52) having a test tip (54), is fixed at a receiving head (26) of the drive screw, where delivery of the drive screw in a machining direction is controlled by a robot arm (14). The test tip is retractable in a step into a recess, at which a slide stroke is detected in a measuring technical manner, where the step is provided downstream to a machining process.
