The gear shaft (2) has a rotationally symmetric base (3), and a mass element (4) attached to the symmetric base. A rotationally symmetrical extension element (1) made of plastic is attached at the symmetric base within an area of the mass element to provide a rotational symmetry to the gear shaft. The extension element exhibits an outer form complementary to the mass element. The extension element comprises a rectangular longitudinal section along a plane comprising a rotation axis (5). The extension element and the mass element are formed as a composite component.
