The press has a pneumatic energy storage (7) designed as cylinder piston units (8, 9), where the energy storage is attached to the press. A piston rod (10) is fastened to a tappet (3) over a detachable coupling (11). The energy storage is regulated in such a manner that the tappet is braked before reaching the lower dead center and again accelerated after passing-through the lower dead center and braked before reaching the upper dead center and again accelerated after passing-through the upper dead center.
