The method involves authenticating information e.g. name, telephone number and address, from a certification authority by a digital certificate. The certificate is stored in the telephone or in a chip card located in the telephone of a caller. The certificate is transmitted to the call receiver before and/or during a telephone call from a telephone of the caller. The certification authority is checked for authenticity via public key by the telephone of the call receiver. The certificate is transmitted with voice data in the voice channel or data channel.
